Antony Blinken Displaced from New York Beach Due to Hurricane Erin

Former Secretary of State Antony Blinken seemed to find himself on the wrong side of beach closures in New York this past Friday. The closures were prompted by hazardous conditions tied to Hurricane Erin.

A photo captured Blinken, who served under President Biden, and his friends lounging in beach chairs at Georgeka Beach in East Hampton, enjoying the ocean view. However, they later had to pack up their things—beach chairs, bags, towels—while lifeguards and patrol vehicles were also collecting belongings.

As they headed back to their cars, Blinken and his friends were seen barefoot and wearing sunglasses, trudging through the sandy path.

The East Hampton area, including Georgeka Beach, had been closed for several days due to potentially dangerous conditions resulting from the hurricane, as stated by a spokesman from the East Hampton Village Main Beach office.

According to a spokesperson for Suffolk County, “The water was closed until last night.” They mentioned that after the tide went down, the beaches could be opened for foot traffic around noon on Friday, but they’d remained closed for days leading up to that.

The spokesperson added, “There were strong rip currents, storm surge waves, and debris. Our priority was to ensure safety for everyone.”

Last week, many areas along the U.S. coast were affected by Hurricane Erin, prompting New York Governor Kathy Hochul to issue warnings, urging residents to remain cautious and prepared for possible dangers.

In a statement, Governor Hochul remarked, “New Yorkers are no strangers to hurricanes, but we urge those in affected areas to stay safe and remain aware until the storm passes later this week.”

Blinken has found himself on the receiving end of scrutiny in the past for his choice of recreational activities. In 2021, he faced criticism for being on vacation in the Hamptons just hours before the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul. More recently, in May, he was criticized online for performing at a bar in Kyiv while the conflict in Ukraine persisted.

It’s interesting how public figures, like Blinken, navigate their personal lives amidst such intense scrutiny. A lot of people might feel torn between their responsibilities and the need for downtime, wouldn’t you agree? Blinken did not immediately respond for comment.
