Rep. Richie Torres (D-NY) on Tuesday in CNN’s “Situation Room” that “any Americans” could be accused of being accused of, deported and tortured under President Donald Trump’s administration.
Host Wolf Blitzer said, “You’re introducing a bill that requires the United States to ensure the return of individuals who have been accidentally deported. Why is this necessary and Republican support?”
Torres said, “I am skeptical that Republicans are supported because they are completely detained by Donald Trump. But of all the abuses of Donald Trump’s presidency, there is no greater threat to freedom than a complete light empt to the due process. Will they be tortured?
He said, “If there are foreign leaders, such as the president of El Salvador, refuse to release someone who has been mistakenly deported from federal courts, there should be geopolitical consequences, and the consequences should be prompt and serious. They should include halting relations with the US and termination of foreign aid.”
