The heated exchange between Ocasio-Cortez and Greene occurred during Thursday’s House Oversight Hearing, when House members convened to discuss a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress.
Greene noted that the daughter of Judge Juan Marchan, who is overseeing former President Donald Trump’s business records trial, is employed by Representative Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.), He questioned whether any of his Democratic colleagues employed Mr. Marchand’s daughter.
“Tell me what that has to do with Merrick Garland,” Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) said at the hearing.
“Oh, Goldman. That’s right. He’s advising,” Mr. Green added, but Mr. Crockett questioned Mr. Green’s statement and asked if he knew why he was attending the hearing.

“I don’t think you know what you’re here for,” Green added, commenting on Crockett wearing “false eyelashes.”
This comment by Greene caused Ocasio-Cortez to jump to Crockett’s defense and demand that Greene retract her words.
“That is absolutely unacceptable,” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “It’s such a common thing to attack someone else’s appearance.”
“Are your feelings hurt?” Green shot back. “ah.”

Ocasio-Cortez responded, “Oh, ladies, ladies.”
“Well, really?” Green replied.
To which Ocasio-Cortez responded, “Don’t play, baby girl.”
“Baby girl? I don’t think so,” Green added.
Ms. Green was then asked if she would fight back on her words, and ultimately decided to do so. Ocasio-Cortez spoke up again, demanding an apology from Greene.
“Why aren’t you arguing with me?” asked Greene, to which Ocasio-Cortez pointed out, “That’s pretty obvious.”
Green retorted, “Well, you’re not smart enough.”
