AOC threatens Supreme Court articles of impeachment over immunity ruling

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Democrat of New York, has threatened to bring articles of impeachment to the Supreme Court following Monday’s immunity ruling against former President Trump.

“The Supreme Court has become engulfed in a corruption crisis that is out of control,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X. “Today’s ruling is an attack on American democracy. It is up to Congress to protect the country from this authoritarian rule. I will be introducing articles of impeachment when I return.”

The ruling said the president has absolute immunity from prosecution for “acts that are within the scope of his constitutional and exclusive powers” and that he has “constructive immunity” for general official conduct. The court said there is no immunity for unofficial conduct.

Fox News Digital reached out to Ocasio-Cortez’s congressional office for clarification on who specifically she plans to impeach, but did not immediately receive a response.

Ocasio-Cortez is not the only Democrat to condemn the Supreme Court’s decision.

“House Democrats will engage in aggressive oversight and legislative action on the Supreme Court to ensure that the far-right majority of justices upholds the Constitution,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-New York) said in a statement.

“Today’s Supreme Court decision gives former presidents legal immunity for crimes they committed using their official powers and sets a dangerous precedent for the future of our country,” Jeffries said.

“This is a sad day for America and for our democracy,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York wrote to X. “A foundation of our justice system is that no one is above the law. Treason and incitement of insurrection should not be considered core constitutional powers granted to the president.”

The Supreme Court’s decision did not say whether Trump’s actions were within his constitutional authority, leaving that issue to be decided by lower courts.
