Vandalism at Ocasio-Cortez’s Bronx Office
Late Sunday night, the office of New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat, was vandalized by pro-Palestinian activists. This followed her vote against an amendment to reduce funding for Israel.
Her office was splashed with red paint, accompanied by a sign reading, “AOC will fund the genocide in Gaza.” Photos shared by various outlets show the front of the office and the surrounding sidewalk marked by paint.
The Boogie Down Liberation Front, a group opposing Israeli policies, seemingly endorsed the vandalism. They expressed frustration towards Ocasio-Cortez and fellow representative Richie Torres, stating, “The Bronx is sick and I’m tired of people like AOC and Richie Torres trampling on us for their political careers.”
In a tweet, one supporter declared, “The Bronx stands with the Palestinians and condemns the hypocrisy of AOC for voting for Israel’s ongoing genocide and hunger campaign in Gaza.”
This incident came shortly after Ocasio-Cortez diverged from her progressive colleagues in the House, where she voted against funding cuts to the Israeli Defence Forces. She was part of a majority that, along with 421 fellow representatives, opposed this move.
Requests for comments from Ocasio-Cortez’s office were not answered. Previously, she clarified her reasoning for voting against the amendment, arguing that it would not effectively halt aggressive military support for Israel or stop the flow of U.S. ammunition used in Gaza.
She emphasized that the amendment would block defensive measures while allowing offensive capabilities to continue, which she found unacceptable. The controversy intensified after a recent attack by the Israeli Defense Forces that hit Gaza’s only Catholic Church.
