AP faces backlash online for sympathetic coverage of terrorists hurt in Israeli attack

AP Faces Backlash Over Report on Terrorists Injured in Israeli Attack

The Associated Press received significant criticism following its report that seemed to sympathetically cover a terrorist injured during an Israeli operation. This operation involved a remotely detonated explosive, which was reportedly used by Hezbollah in a well-publicized incident in September 2024.

In the report, the AP spoke with individuals from Syria and Lebanon who were hurt as a result of this operation. The attack has been noted for its precision, earning praise from Israeli supporters, though critics have highlighted civilian casualties as grounds for accusing Israel of war crimes.

“Ten months later, those who survived are slowly trying to recover,” the AP indicated. “They bear signs of their injuries; missing eyes, covered scars, and fingers easily identifiable due to their absence.”

The article ignited outrage among many users online, who condemned the AP’s portrayal of the situation.

Melissa Weiss, an editor at Jewish Insider, mentioned, “Hezbollah provided eight individuals for this report. Out of those, two were children, two were women, and one was a preacher. This selection does not represent the majority affected by the actions of Hezbollah.”

Rebecca Heinrich from the Hudson Institute reacted, saying, “The AP’s sympathy for Hezbollah terrorists is simply outrageous.”

Eitan Fishberger also expressed disbelief at the coverage, tweeting, “The AP has literally published a piece about a Hezbollah terrorist who was injured in Operation Grim Beeper.”

Joel Petlin, a contributor to Newsweek Opinion, questioned the judgment of the AP’s editorial team, wondering, “Did no one at the AP stop to ask if publishing this piece was truly appropriate?”

Hen Mazzig shared his thoughts as well, stating, “It’s telling that the AP shows more empathy for injured Hezbollah terrorists than for Israeli hostages.”

Additionally, others pointed out that the report effectively confirmed that most of those harmed in the operation were indeed Hezbollah members. According to the AP, the attack injured over 3,000 people and resulted in 12 fatalities, including two children.
