‘Appalling’ Universities Punish Students Protesting ‘Genocide’

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) was furious Thursday at a university for suppressing anti-Israel students protesting “genocide.”

“Students across our country, from the University of California to Vanderbilt University to the University of Southern California to Columbia University, are being retaliated against for using their constitutional rights to protest genocide. It’s horrifying,” Tlaib said. I wrote to X.

Tlaib was responding to the arrest of Ilsa Hirsi, the daughter of far-left member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who was participating in anti-Israel protests this week.

As Breitbart News reported, New York police arrested more than 100 anti-Israel protesters at Columbia University this week as the Ivy League president testified before a House committee about the campus’ response to anti-Semitism. Police arrested a demonstrator on suspicion of trespassing. They were reportedly detained without any resistance.

The school only allowed protesters with Columbia ID to be on campus after closing the gates. Columbia University President Nemat (Minoush) Shafiq sent a letter to New York City police officials Thursday, asking them to remove trespassers.

Isra Hirsi was reportedly among those arrested on Thursday, and she will be processed.

“I am an organizer of CU Apartheid Divest.” @ColumbiaSJPin my 3 years @Barnard College, I “I have never received a single reprimand or disciplinary warning. I received notification that I was one of three students suspended for solidarity with Palestinians facing genocide. I was there,” Hirschi told X.

“We in the Gaza Solidarity encampment will not be threatened,” she added. “We will remain steadfast until our demands are met. Our demands include divestment from companies complicit in genocide, transparency in @Columbia’s investments, and in the face of repression. Includes full amnesty for all students.”

Mr. Tlaib is so prone to accusing Israel of genocide that he uses the phrase “from the river to the sea,” referring to the supposed liberation of Palestinians between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.

“From River to Sea is an aspirational call for freedom, human rights and peaceful coexistence, not death, destruction and hatred,” she said. I have written last year. “My work and advocacy have always centered on justice and dignity for all people, regardless of their faith or ethnicity.”
