Apple Introduces New Devices at Annual Event

Apple has officially added a long-anticipated device to its lineup. During its annual fall keynote on Wednesday, the company unveiled the iPhone Duo, marking its entry into the foldable phone market.

John Ternus, who recently took on the role of Apple CEO, stated that the iPhone Duo features a completely new design but retains the elements fans love about the iPhone. He mentioned that it offers “the largest display ever on an iPhone” while still being compact enough to fit in your pocket. It’s a product of advanced engineering, yet it’s designed for ease of use, allowing for novel experiences.

The device can fold to a size similar to a passport, enabling one-handed operation on its outer screen, and it opens up to a display reminiscent of the iPad. Despite its dual display, Apple claims this is the thinnest iPhone design thus far.

In keeping with the iPad experience, the iPhone Duo will support side-by-side app multitasking and the use of the Apple Pencil, a first for the iPhone series. Touch ID also makes a return, this time integrated into a side button.

The phone comes equipped with dual 48MP cameras—main and ultra-wide—and features a Smart Take function that allows subjects to preview themselves on the outer screen, with AI handling the shot once everyone is posed. The starting price is set at $1,999, with storage options ranging from 256 GB to a hefty 2 TB.

This launch is seen as Apple’s move to compete with existing Android foldable releases like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Google Pixel Fold, which made their debuts in 2019 and 2023.

On the same day, Apple also announced the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max. These new models feature a redesigned camera with a DSLR-like aperture, greatly improving performance in low-light situations and providing a better depth of field. They also introduced a new capability that detects AI-generated photos, generating an unchangeable Reference Image alongside any edited version.

The starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro is $1,199, while the Pro Max begins at $1,299, with leasing options available through Apple Upgrade.

Additionally, the event highlighted new products including AirPods 5 and the Apple Watch Series 12. The new AirPods feature advanced noise cancellation, superior sound quality, hands-free Siri integration, and live translation capabilities, starting at $129.

The Apple Watch Series 12 has been upgraded with a more sophisticated health sensing system that tracks higher-frequency heart rate and variability. This is paired with a redesigned Health app to monitor workouts, sleep, heart health, and more, starting at $399.

Interestingly, Apple has recently increased prices across its product offerings, attributing this rise to ongoing global chip shortages driven by the heightened demand for AI technology.

In the third fiscal quarter, Apple’s iPhone division reported impressive revenue of $54.25 billion, exceeding analysts’ expectations of $53.86 billion—up by 22% from previous figures.
