Apple’s augmented reality Vision Pro headset has officially arrived

Apple’s latest device, the Vision Pro, is officially available.

The Vision Pro is an augmented reality headset that Apple CEO Tim Cook touted as “the most advanced consumer electronics device ever created.”

Apple said it plans to carry the device both in its U.S. stores and on its website. It operates more than 270 retail stores nationwide.

On the eve of its release, Cook said Vision Pro was “the culmination of years of hard work by so many people across Apple.”

According to Apple’s website, the device has a starting price of $3,499.99, but the price can increase as customers opt for more storage.

Friday’s debut comes two weeks after Apple opened pre-orders for the Vision Pro on January 19th.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, estimates that the company had 160,000 to 180,000 pre-orders during the opening weekend, and was sold out at one point.

Meanwhile, MacRumors reported Monday that Apple reported sales of at least 200,000 Vision Pro units ahead of Friday’s official debut.

To increase productivity, Vision Pro users can have many apps open at the same time in what’s called an “infinite canvas.” He also said the headset’s display will allow users to watch AppleTV+, Disney+, Max and other content on a “100-foot screen.”

Apple announced Thursday that the company has created more than 600 “spatial” apps and games for Vision Pro so far, including the PGA Tour, NBA, Box, Zillow and Microsoft 365. There are also more than 1 million compatible iOS and iPadOS apps, according to the iPhone maker.

The last time Apple introduced an entirely new product category was about nine years ago.

Cook said Thursday that Apple is “incredibly excited about the opportunity for businesses with Vision Pro.”

Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri also said Thursday night that “we’re seeing a lot of excitement in the enterprise,” adding that some large companies are “developing a platform to bring innovative spatial computing experiences to their customers and employees. We are starting to utilize and invest in Apple Vision Pro as a new platform.” ”
