The Supreme Court’s ruling mandating Team Trump to target numerous education employees represents a significant win for both him and the nation.

This decision emphasizes a point made clear by another ruling last week, affirming that government agencies possess the essential authority to hire and dismiss workers.

Moreover, the proposed layoffs—over 1,300 of the agency’s 4,000 employees—support President Trump’s aim of completely dismantling the agency.

This is positive news for students, parents, and taxpayers alike.

Ultimately, the department has expended billions without any noticeable improvement in learning outcomes, with substantial funds benefiting Blue States and teachers’ unions.

If anything, the department had an agenda, notably regarding issues like integrating boys into girls’ sports and locker rooms.

Many of the initiatives under its management would remain intact even if the agency were eliminated, as other entities could take over these duties. However, the hope is for streamlined operations and a reduction in workforce size.

It’s time to remove educational policy-making from the federal level.

It’s worth noting that the Department of Education only came into existence in 1980, a creation stemming from a bargain by Jimmy Carter with the National Education Association.

Historically, education policy has been largely overseen by states, local governments, school boards, and parents.

Of course, the president will need Congressional consent to formally disband the department. This could present a challenging endeavor for Republicans, but it’s a battle that’s worth engaging in.

In the meantime, if Trump can effectively reduce the personnel at the Department of Education and limit its functions, that alone would be a considerable achievement.
