Arcane Estate Coffee in New York City listed among the 100 Best in the World

A New Popular Caffeine Spot in the City That Never Sleeps

A coffee shop in New York City’s West Village has been recognized as one of the finest globally, according to a recent report. The establishment, known as Arcane Estate Coffee, made it to the 12th spot on the 100 Best Coffee Shops in the World list, among just nine U.S. cafes included.

This is quite a noteworthy achievement, especially considering that the cafe opened its doors merely nine months ago.

Arcane Estate Coffee was launched with the intention of highlighting the beauty of Panamanian coffee. According to their social media, they aim “to create a cafe that could showcase the wonders of Panamanian coffee.”

Situated on Cornelia Street, this small cafe has garnered a following for its rare coffee beans, which are sourced directly from family-run farms in Panama’s Chiriquí Plateau, an area famous for its volcanic soils and Geisha varieties.

Founder Edgar Acosta Masferral discovered his family’s land amidst Panama’s coffee-growing region, and they focus on tradition while offering options that many might not typically consider. Their menu rotates, showcasing micro-lots that capture the essence of the current season.

One enthusiastic customer shared their experience on Instagram, stating, “The best coffee I’ve ever had. The taste, the preparation, the service, the facilities…everything.”

However, sourcing the coffee is a bit of a challenge. The limited supply means that bags can sell out rapidly, with a cap of two bags allowed per person.

The coffee profile is “deliberately light” to preserve its original character, and the shop offers coffee from both their own farms and from producers who’ve influenced their approach over the last decade.

They emphasized on Instagram that their mission is to make the hard work done on the farm more visible, inviting guests to take the time to appreciate each detail, from the soil to the cup.

This year’s edition of the World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops ranking, unveiled at Coffeefest Madrid 2026, assessed over 15,000 coffee shops globally. Evaluation criteria included coffee quality, barista skill, customer service, innovation, atmosphere, sustainability, consistency, and the quality of food and pastries.

The voting process considered both public and expert opinions, with the public vote making up 30% of the final score, while expert evaluations accounted for the remaining 70%.

Onyx Coffee Lab in Arkansas claimed the top spot, followed by Tim Windelboe from Norway in second and Alquimia Coffee in third. Other notable American cafes on the list included Blend In Coffee Club in Texas, Domestic in Alabama, and several more across different states.

This ranking illustrates the burgeoning coffee scene, with the United States leading with nine places, trailed by Australia, Peru, Spain, Honduras, and Taiwan.
