Are Sleepovers Safe for Kids? The Surprising Impact of Technology on the Decision!

Parental perfection is unattainable, yet the approach of parents has sparked heated debates, particularly when it comes to granting children independence and the ability to self-learn.

Many attentive parents would concur that ensuring a child’s safety by keeping them at home, preoccupying them with screens, and monitoring every action doesn’t foster their independence or thoughts.

What about spending the night at a friend's house?

"I don't recall as early as kindergarten, yet during my early days of sleepovers, I felt like a first grader. I surely stayed at a friend’s home, and they stayed over at mine," recalls Ally Beth Stucky from 'Relevant'.

"My parents' stipulation was that if I visited someone's home—regardless of whether it was for a night—they had to know the parents, not just ‘I spoke once on the phone,’ but truly got acquainted," she adds, "I believe that's a useful boundary."

However, circumstances have changed since Stucky's childhood.

"Not only do you need to be familiar with their parents, but also their siblings should your child be there during any part of the day."

"My viewpoint differs from that of my parents. I think that's a solid general guideline, especially with the technology children have access to nowadays."

Some children experience exposure to shocking content such as pornography during sleepovers.

"I believe there are beneficial risks, and then there are excessive risks," states Stucky.
