Argentina’s Javier Milei to Meet Facebook, Apple, Google, OpenAI Heads in San Francisco

Argentine President Javier Milley began a four-day visit to the United States on Tuesday, during which he is scheduled to meet with the CEOs of Google, Facebook, OpenAI and Apple in San Francisco, California.

Millay left Argentina late Monday night and arrived in California on Tuesday with a focus on soliciting investments from U.S. tech giants and other entrepreneurs in the technology and artificial intelligence sectors.

The visit will be Milley’s fourth visit to the United States since being elected president in November 2023. previous During a visit to the US in mid-April, Milley met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in Texas.

Following his visit to California, Millay will depart on Friday for El Salvador, where he has been invited to attend President Najib Bukele’s inauguration for a second term on Saturday, June 1.

According to the Argentine Presidential Office report Milley arrived in California on Tuesday afternoon (Buenos Aires local time) and is due to meet with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman later on Tuesday, according to local media.

Milley will deliver a 45-minute paper at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution on Wednesday, after which he will meet with Stanford President Richard Thaler, Hoover Institution Director Condoleezza Rice, Hoover Institution professors and economic policy experts.

Milley is set to continue his schedule on Wednesday, meeting with Google CEO Sundar Pichai, followed by Apple CEO Tim Cook, before wrapping up the day with meetings with entrepreneurs and investors in the artificial intelligence field.

Millay is scheduled to meet with artificial intelligence startups on Thursday before giving closing remarks at the Pacific Summit, hosted by the Bay Area Council. The Argentine president is scheduled to conclude Thursday’s agenda with a meeting with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Millay is due to leave the United States on Friday afternoon for El Salvador, where he will attend President Najib Bukele’s inauguration on Saturday before returning to Argentina.

“By the end of this visit, the President will have met with four of the 10 most valuable companies in the world. [the] “The intention is to reposition Argentina in the world,” presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni said. Said Millay’s US travel itinerary was announced on Monday.

Adorni said Milley has no plans to meet with officials from President Joe Biden’s administration, but did not rule out a meeting taking place in the coming days.

Immediately following his visit to the United States, Millay is scheduled to begin a European tour in mid-June, including a visit to Italy to attend the G7 summit from June 13-15 at the invitation of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni this year.
