In Arizona, a teenager tragically lost his life after a fight erupted at a neighborhood soccer game. Tumsif Bazirake, just 19, had stepped in to defend his brother during an altercation that followed their game at Sueno Park in Phoenix, which took place around 8 PM on August 6.
According to police reports, Bazirake was attacked by multiple individuals after the match concluded. His brother, Jean-Paul, expressed his frustration over the chaotic scene that ensued after their team scored, resulting in their opponents becoming aggressive.
Jean-Paul recounted how the situation escalated, stating they were pushed and struck following the goal. He noted that his brother intervened, attempting to safeguard him as the scuffle became overwhelming and lasted for roughly 20 minutes.
He vividly remembered the moment when he saw Tumsif on the ground, unable to defend himself as he was subjected to a brutal beating. “When I turned around, he was on the ground and they were just stomping on him while he was on the ground. Stomping, kicking, punching, everything,” he shared.
After the violent incident, Bazirake’s attackers reportedly discovered him unconscious and fled the scene, which is located about 10 miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Emergency responders arrived to find him in critical condition, and he was quickly transported to a local hospital.
Sadly, Tumsif succumbed to his injuries on August 13, prompting authorities to initiate a murder investigation. His body has been sent to the medical examiner for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and police have not named any suspects or persons of interest in the case.
His family, devastated by the loss, revealed that Tumsif had been looking forward to starting his first semester at community college on August 24. He had aspirations of becoming a firefighter, hoping to make a positive impact by helping others.
His mother conveyed, through an interpreter, that her son had a passion for education and genuinely wanted to assist people in need. To help cover funeral expenses, a GoFundMe campaign has been established with the aim of ensuring that Tumsif can be “buried with dignity, love and respect.”
The fundraiser reflects the family’s profound grief, noting, “Losing a child is a grief no parent should ever have to face, and this moment brought deep sadness and many difficult decisions all at once.”
