Intruder Shot After Breaking into Florida Home

In DeLand, Florida, a man knocked on the back door of a residence on Voorhis Street on Monday, prompting a woman inside to open the door, thinking it was a delivery.

However, the situation quickly escalated as the man at the door pulled out a gun and forced his way into the home. But luckily, another man inside, presumed to be the woman’s husband, was also armed. He repeatedly commanded the intruder to drop his weapon.

When the intruder refused, the homeowner shot him in the chest. The suspect managed to flee the scene but was later found by officers in a nearby wooded area. He was then airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities say the suspect remains hospitalized and is facing multiple charges, including armed robbery, aggravated assault with a firearm, and tampering with evidence. It appears he may have discarded his gun during the incident.

Fortunately, the homeowner won’t face any charges. Police suggest there’s a prior relationship between the intruder and the woman, with claims that the suspect was stalking her.

“Unfortunately, you have the right to defend your home and your life,” stated DeLand Police Lt. Prurince Dice, emphasizing the situation’s seriousness. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, but authorities believe it is an isolated incident with no immediate threat to the community.

As they work to confirm all details, including any history between the parties involved, the case continues to unfold.
