Army to Change Records of Transgender Soldiers to Reflect Sex Assigned at Birth

US Army Changes Transgender Soldier Records

Washington: The US Army has decided to update the records of transgender soldiers to reflect only their sex at birth.

A note states, “The Commander will take immediate steps to update personnel records and management systems to reflect the biological sex of all individuals.”

This move aligns with a Pentagon memo from February 26, asserting that a person’s gender remains “unchanged during a person’s life.”

Following a recent Supreme Court ruling, documents reveal that President Donald Trump’s administration is addressing the status of thousands of transgender troops.

On May 8, Reuters reported that the Pentagon plans to separate transgender service members who have not voluntarily left by June 6.

The Army has yet to respond to requests for comment.

According to the latest memo, updates will not only adjust records but also implement other measures to reflect each soldier’s gender at birth, which will be managed by the Army Personnel Order.

Further details specify that pronouns used to refer to individuals “must reflect their biological sex.”

In maintaining order and discipline, the memo emphasizes how individuals should address senior officers, using titles like “sir” or “ma’am.”

Access to “intimate spaces” is to be determined by biological sex, ensuring that shared areas are clearly designated for men, women, or families.

Currently, authorities estimate there are about 4,240 active transgender personnel in the US military and National Guard, although advocates for transgender rights suggest the numbers may be higher.

Jennifer Levi, the senior director of the Pro-LGBTQ legal organization GLAD, stated, “The commands that come out are vindictive and offensive, issued in a chaotic way that is undoubtedly harming military readiness.”

Since returning to office in January, Trump signed an executive order reversing policies put in place by his predecessor, Joe Biden, which had allowed transgender forces to serve openly.

A Gallup poll released in February indicated that 58% of Americans support allowing transgender individuals to serve in the military, a drop from 71% in 2019.

Former Fox News host Heggs has been noted for his conservative views on culture wars, particularly regarding diversity initiatives at the Pentagon.
