Nearly half of Americans attribute the current state of the economy to President Trump rather than his predecessor, former President Biden. This information was released in a Gallup poll on Friday.
The survey found that 46% of adults believe Trump holds responsibility for the economic situation, while 27% blamed Biden.
Additionally, 21% of respondents felt that both leaders were equally accountable, and 5% did not assign blame to either.
The findings are similar to an earlier poll from March, where 43% pointed fingers at Trump, and 27% mentioned Biden, while about 23% indicated no responsibility from either.
This latest poll follows Trump’s criticisms of Biden regarding recent economic difficulties.
When participants evaluated the economy as either good or excellent, opinions were almost evenly split, with 34% aligning with Biden’s administration. However, a significant 66% who believe the economy is poor primarily directed blame at the current president. Notably, 20% identified both leaders as responsible.
Among Democrats, 75% placed the blame on Trump for the current economic outlook, whereas among Republicans, perspectives were divided. Around 55% criticized Biden, while 21% pointed to Trump.
Trump and his supporters have reinforced their trade policy stance, which involved imposing tariffs across various countries, including a 145% increase on goods from China.
Recently, Trump acknowledged that tariffs might lead to price increases for goods, noting, “Someone said, ‘Yeah, the shelf is open.’ Now, kids may have two dolls instead of 30 dolls.”
This survey was conducted between April 2 and April 15, involving 2,036 adults, with a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
