Arrest made over the death of the actor Matthew Perry, California police say | Matthew Perry

Police say they have made an arrest in connection with the death of actor Matthew Perry.

NBC News Reported Los Angeles police said in May they were investigating how the “Friends” star obtained prescription drugs, and on Thursday a man was arrested in Southern California.

The Los Angeles Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for more information.

Perry, who had spoken publicly about her issues with drug addiction, was found dead in October 2023 in a hot tub at her Los Angeles home.

Los Angeles Coroner’s Office Decided The cause of death was said to be “acute effects of ketamine,” with contributing factors including drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine, which is used to treat opioid use disorder.

An autopsy found that the levels of ketamine in his blood were similar to those used during general anesthesia.

“Based on the high levels of ketamine detected in postmortem blood samples, the primary fatal effects appear to be due to both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression,” the autopsy report stated. Perry’s death was ruled an accident and no evidence of foul play was found.

The Los Angeles Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration said in May they were working on a joint criminal investigation into how Perry, 54, obtained prescription drugs and why he had so much of the drug in his system.

The coroner said that at the time of his death, Perry had been receiving intravenous ketamine treatment for anxiety and depression, but that his last treatment, which took place a week and a half before his death, could not explain the levels of ketamine in his blood.

Perry has spoken about her history of substance abuse, which she said began when she was 14 and worsened during her role on Friends.

The coroner said Perry had been sober for 19 months at the time of his death and no illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia were found in his home.
