The Oakland Athletics are in the process of relocating to Las Vegas, leaving their previous base in Auckland behind. For the moment, they’re playing at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, and it seems not everyone is pleased with this move. Many fans are expressing their discontent with ownership for deciding to transition to Las Vegas.
At a recent pre-game event before facing the Minnesota Twins, one fan made a statement by wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the word “Sale.” This fan, Joe Horton, took to social media to reveal his experience with security, stating he was allowed to stay in his seat after they addressed him. He shared a clip before the game, joking, “it’s not my first rodeo.”
At the pre-game show, security guards quickly moved in to address the situation, and the interactions were broadcast live. Horton captured the moment and later shared it, mentioning that he had “made some friends” that day.
Fans like Horton are frustrated with team owner John Fisher, particularly during this turbulent phase where the Athletics’ future sits in Las Vegas, but they will be playing in Sacramento for several more seasons due to delays in building a new stadium slated for Las Vegas, not expected to be ready until 2028.
The sentiment among many fans remains clear: a strong desire for a change in ownership. Much like the showing seen during last season, where supporters displayed similar signs and attire, it seems this frustration is becoming increasingly vocal.
Despite being in the midst of such a tough transition, the Athletics continue to nurture a young roster filled with potential talent like Brent Luker and Tyler Soderstrom. Yet, as they struggle in the standings, fans are not hesitating to voice their opinions about ownership and the direction of the team.
