Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that as president, Kamala Harris would work with Congress to “create a path to citizenship.”
“President Biden has ordered Vice President Harris to travel to Central American countries to address the root causes of mass migration at the border, and she has consistently defended the Vice President’s response to the border crisis,” said anchor Jake Tapper. “It goes without saying that an overwhelming majority of voters are unhappy with the Biden-Harris administration’s response to the border, given that they have named one of the leaders tackling the border issue. Democrats may be doubled down on one of their party’s greatest weaknesses.”
Warren said, “Let’s start with the facts: The number of people crossing the border right now is lower than it was in the last year of the Trump administration. But I know Kamala Harris knows this too. This is ultimately a problem that Congress has to solve. We need more resources at the border, more resources for the states and cities that are helping migrants, we need tools and order. And I believe we need to create a pathway to citizenship. All of these things are part of what we need to do for comprehensive immigration reform. Kamala Harris will work with Congress to get it done.”
She added: “By contrast, Donald Trump recognizes that Democrats and Republicans have been working together since last fall to negotiate a deal. Two days before they were ready to vote on that border deal, Donald Trump called on Republicans who had praised the deal to pull out of it because he thought it would give him an advantage in this election on November 5th and he wanted chaos at the border.”
