Ashley Hinson Launches Senate Campaign in Iowa

Republican Representative Ashley Hinson has declared her candidacy for the U.S. Senate, aiming to succeed GOP Senator Joni Ernst, who recently announced she would not run for reelection.

“I’m running for the United States Senate,” Hinson stated during an appearance on a popular afternoon talk radio show in Iowa. The former television news anchor represents Iowa’s second congressional district, which encompasses the state’s northeastern region. She has expressed her support for President Donald Trump, declaring, “I’m running to become President Trump’s top ally in the United States Senate. I’m proud to fight alongside him.”

Joni Ernst made headlines earlier in the day with a social media video revealing her decision not to seek another term in the Senate next year. Ernst, who has served since 2014 and is a retired officer who served in the Iraq War, shared her thoughts about stepping back to spend more time with family. In her video, she mentioned, “This is not an easy decision,” reflecting on her eight years in office.

Hinson, in her push for a Senate seat, highlighted key priorities, including maintaining secure borders, protecting women’s sports, and supporting families and the farming community. She intends to campaign across all 99 counties in Iowa, starting with a kickoff event this Friday.

Iowa has shifted politically in recent years, becoming more supportive of Republican candidates. Trump notably recorded significant wins in the state in the past elections, asserting a strong presence for the GOP.

While Democrats are energized following recent victories in state Senate races, a number of candidates have already emerged for the Iowa Senate seat, including state legislator Josh Turek and State Senator Zack Worles. There’s a sense that this race could be a significant one for both parties, with the dynamics shifting across the political landscape.

Overall, as Hinson embarks on this journey, many will be watching closely to see how both parties maneuver in the lead-up to the upcoming elections.
