Conspiracy Theories Surge After WHCA Dinner Incident
Following the alleged assassination attempt on President Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, conspiracy theories have proliferated online, as noted by an analysis from The Washington Post.
Cole Allen, a 31-year-old, is now in federal custody facing multiple charges, including attempted assassination of the president, transporting a firearm over state lines, and discharging a firearm during an aggravated assault. This occurred when he reportedly breached a Secret Service checkpoint at the Washington Hilton, where the dinner took place.
The dinner had just begun with Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and others in attendance when the incident happened.
Interestingly, reports indicate that approximately one in five posts from left-wing influencers and politicians right after the event suggested it was staged, a hoax, or a “false flag.” Among these voices was Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), who labeled the situation “fake.” Other online personalities echoed similar sentiments.
One notable social media post, attributed to Hollywood director Morgan J. Freeman—not to be confused with the actor—consisted solely of the word “staged” written in all caps, shared extensively, gathering significant engagement among followers. Many seem to believe that the alleged assassination attempt could politically benefit the current president.
In a response, Trump’s press secretary, Davis Ingle, remarked bluntly that anyone suggesting Trump orchestrated the attack is “a complete idiot.”
Background on Allen reveals his alignment with Democratic activism, having participated in protests and contributed to Kamala Harris’ campaign. Before the incident, he transmitted a message to his family, justifying his actions as part of a mission that could likely endanger his life.
Some sources indicate that he saw himself as a liberator for the oppressed and had concerns about others getting caught in the crossfire.
