Asylum Seeker Accused of Raping London Teen in Taxpayer-Funded Hotel for Migrants

Charges Filed Against Asylum Seeker in Serious Crime Case

Authorities have charged a Sri Lankan asylum seeker residing in a government-funded hotel with multiple felonies after he allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted a teenage girl in London.

The 20-year-old, Yasin Himasala, is accused of attacking the 15-year-old victim in Feltham on November 1. Reports indicate that he raped, beat, and strangled the girl after taking her away against her will.

At the time of the incident, Himasala was staying at the St Giles Hotel, which has been repurposed by the British government to accommodate asylum seekers. This information was highlighted in reports from various news outlets.

During a court appearance at Isleworth Crown Court, Himasala pleaded not guilty to seven charges, which include kidnapping, rape, and two counts of intentional strangulation. He joined the proceedings via video link from Wormwood Scrubs Prison, assisted by a Sinhala interpreter due to his limited English skills, as noted by his defense attorney.

Judge Kwame Inyundo ordered that Himasala remain in custody until his trial, which is set for April 27, 2026. The judge cautioned him that if he failed to appear, the trial would proceed without him, potentially resulting in more charges.

The Home Ministry has not commented on Himasala’s asylum status, but a government spokesperson emphasized their commitment to addressing crimes committed by illegal immigrants. They stated that approximately 50,000 individuals without legal status have already been removed from the UK.

The spokesperson mentioned that such actions are aimed at enhancing the safety of the UK and its citizens while strengthening the enforcement of immigration laws.
