At Least 13 Facing Charges As Gen Z Drinking Trend Takes Over St. Patrick’s Day Parade In Boston

At least 13 people have been arrested after ZZZ's “Borg” drinking tendencies took over, which took over St. Patrick's Day parade in Boston.

The Boston Police Department (BPD) shared images of Borg on Sunday, or images confiscated at the 122nd Annual Celebration. This trend involves filling plastic jugs with water, alcohol, and electrolyte mixtures such as Gatorade, Liquid IV, or Pedialit. This trend appears throughout university campuses in the US, with people putting nick dams on containers with puns and phrases that include the word “Borg” such as “Taco Borg” and “Borgan Freeman.”

Nine people are arrested and four are summoned to face a judge. It has been reportedQuote the police. Individuals face several different accusations, including alcohol, disorderly conduct, public fights, assault, minors in possession of batteries, destruction of property, assault and obstructing the battery to police officers.

“Some people refuse to listen to and follow simple rules,” the Massachusetts Bai Transit Authority Police (MBTA) said in X, accompanied by a photo of Borg. “This is a small sampling of transport police officers seized from people entering the parade.”

MBTA's shared photos show plastic bags of several confiscated jugs covered in streets. a video Shared on Tiktok shows the collection of Borg at Boston Station in what one commenter called “Borg Graveyard.”

“Our executives and public safety partners are doing everything they can to maintain a family-friendly environment,” BPD said. I said In a press release. “Alcohol has been seized by minors and public drinking.”

City leaders agreed to launch an annual event in the early stages, hoping to curb public drinking that also occurred in the 2024 parade, Boston 25 reported.

There have been several reports of violent behavior against Boston's non-emergency service line, including complaints of underage drinking.

“Where is the T's traffic police presence? North Station is a madhouse for now and feels very unsafe,” one complaint read. “People (teenagers) are screaming, screaming, running through the station, but obviously not calm. St. Patty's Day is a very chaotic day, and there's usually an extra security… I'm not looking at anything.”

BPD did not immediately respond to daily caller requests for comment.
