At least two people were killed Friday when a school bus in Texas collided with an 18-wheeler while returning from a field trip to the zoo, authorities said.

A Hays Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) bus overturned near Texas Route 21 and Caldwell Road in Bastrop County around 2:15 p.m. fox austin report.

According to the school district, 44 students and 11 adults were on board the bus.

The bus was filled with pre-school students from Tom Green Elementary School returning from a field trip to the Bastrop Zoo.

“Parents of students on the bus have been notified directly by the campus. The district is currently in the process of reintegration. Hays CISD transportation staff, counselors, safety and security personnel, and other administration All individuals joined first responders at the scene of the accident “or at a unified location,” Hays CISD said in a statement.
