Massive Fire in Bangkok Pub Claims Lives
A catastrophic fire erupted at a pub in Bangkok early Monday, resulting in at least 27 fatalities and multiple injuries as patrons attempted to escape the smoke-filled establishment, officials reported.
The blaze ignited around midnight at a venue located in Na Lap Phrao, north of Thailand’s capital, according to rescue workers.
Footage taken by first responders captured flames billowing from the building’s front, coupled with thick black smoke rising into the sky as people hurried to get out.
Firefighters managed to control the fire within approximately 30 minutes, as reported.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who was present at the scene, confirmed that 27 individuals had died and several injured were transported to nearby hospitals.
The cause of the fire remains unclear; it is still under investigation.
According to the Prime Minister, a musician performing at the pub mentioned seeing smoke emerging from a breaker near the stage just before a power outage occurred.
Shortly after, an explosion was heard, and thick smoke rapidly filled the venue.
Many of the victims were reportedly in the restrooms at the back of the pub when the chaos began.
Photos from the scene indicate significant damage inside the establishment.
Thailand has faced similar tragedies in nightlife venues before. Just last year, a fire at a music pub in eastern Thailand claimed 14 lives.
