At-risk Dems steer clear of Biden debate drama ahead of close Senate elections

Some incumbent Democrats running for re-election in November’s presidential election are hesitant to comment on Biden’s performance in last month’s debate with former President Trump and whether he should be the Democratic nominee.

The campaigns of Sens. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and Bob Casey (D-Pennsylvania) did not provide comment or concerns about the debate by the time of publication to Fox News Digital.

“Voters in November have a clear choice between an administration focused on lowering costs, expanding the middle class and restoring reproductive freedom, or Trump’s MAGA policies that ban abortion and devastate hardworking Nevada families,” a spokesperson for Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nevada, told Fox News Digital in a statement.

“Senator Rosen is focused on his reelection campaign and continuing his track record as one of the most bipartisan, independent and effective Senators,” the statement continued, without mentioning Biden.

The campaign did not respond to questions from Fox News Digital about Biden’s debate appearance or his position as the Democratic nominee.

“Bob Casey, are you really not concerned about Biden’s ‘terrible’ debate performance? Pennsylvanians I’ve heard from should be concerned. Our military needs a commander in chief who is strong and astute to lead in a time of crisis. Yet Casey is back to his usual boring tactics of defending Biden and lying to the people of Pennsylvania,” McCormick said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

With Biden and vulnerable senators vying for reelection in key battleground states, the president’s approval rating has slipped in post-debate polls by The New York Times, Siena College and The Wall Street Journal. The former showed Trump winning 49% to 41% among registered voters, while the latter showed him beating the president among the same group by a similar margin, 48% to 42%.
