An Atlas Airlines Boeing 747-8 cargo plane suffered an engine failure shortly after takeoff, forcing it to make an emergency landing at Miami International Airport.
“The crew followed all standard procedures and returned safely to MIA,” Atlas Air said in a statement, adding that an examination would be conducted to determine the cause of the accident, which occurred late Thursday.
An unverified video on social media platform X showed flames shooting out of the aircraft's left wing during the flight.
Reuters could not immediately confirm the authenticity of the video.
The aircraft involved was a Boeing 747-8, according to Flightaware data.
Boeing's 747-8 is powered by four General Electric GEnx engines.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and no one was injured, the airport told Reuters.
It was not immediately clear how many crew members were on board.
Boeing declined to comment, while the FAA and General Electric did not respond to Reuters requests for comment.
Boeing has been in crisis since an Alaska Airlines MAX 9 passenger plane made an emergency landing with part of its fuselage snapped shortly after takeoff from Portland, Oregon, on January 5th.
In response to the incident, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) temporarily grounded 171 aircraft for safety inspections.
Boeing stock has fallen about 15% since the Alaska Airlines incident.
The plane maker said goodbye to its iconic 747 early last year, delivering its last plane to Atlas Air, marking the end of an era when the first-ever “jumbo jet” ruled the skies.
