AT&T to Relocate Headquarters to Plano

AT&T has announced plans to establish a new headquarters in Plano, Texas, just outside downtown Dallas. CEO John Stankey communicated this decision to employees in a letter on Monday, stating that the current headquarters at 2008 will be moved closer to the busy Legacy West area, known for its food and shopping options.

The new site spans 54 acres, previously occupied by Electronic Data Systems. Stankey expressed intentions to “fundamentally transform” the location by demolishing the old buildings to create a modern campus designed for better collaboration.

As part of this transition, AT&T plans to relocate most of its 6,000 employees from the high-rise Dallas location to the new campus. This new facility will feature a broader, lower-rise design and integrate various amenities within the site.

Despite the move, AT&T will retain some corporate functions in downtown Dallas, as officials noted they struggled to find adequate land in the area that could accommodate the ambitious plans for the new headquarters.

The company aims to begin the relocation to its new headquarters by the latter half of 2028. This shift aligns with a broader trend of companies relocating their main offices to the suburbs around Dallas.

Other firms, such as Toyota and Fisher Investments, have also made similar moves to Plano in recent years. Moreover, companies like Caterpillar and Wells Fargo are establishing campuses outside the main Dallas area. Interestingly, Goldman Sachs is in the process of constructing a 14-story campus in the city.
