Attorney General supported by Soros claims Democrats coordinated lawsuits against Trump on a daily basis.

New Mexico Attorney General’s Ongoing Legal Battles Against Trump Administration

The Coalition of Anti-Trump State Attorneys General has been actively meeting to strategize against the Trump administration, according to New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez. Supported by George Soros, he indicated that discussions occurred daily during the first few months of Trump’s second term.

In an interview with Source New Mexico, Torrez mentioned that for the initial 90 days, he and other Democratic attorneys general convened regularly. Since then, they’ve shifted to meetings every other day. This organized effort has led him to lead or be part of 36 legal challenges against the administration since January 2025, including disputes over the deployment of the National Guard in Washington, D.C., and certain immigration policies.

Torrez acknowledged that opposing Trump is a daunting task, noting the growing demands on resources as they work to track the status of all these lawsuits.

Legal Challenges Launched by Torres

Torrez has managed to file a lawsuit right after Trump returned to office, collaborating with 17 other attorneys general against an executive order that restricts birthright citizenship for children born to illegal immigrants. He deemed the order a fundamental violation of constitutional rights. As of now, this order remains blocked due to ongoing litigation.

In subsequent months, he spearheaded further lawsuits, including one against Trump’s executive order requiring proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections. Additionally, he filed a brief supporting another case that challenges the deployment of troops to D.C.

Torrez has been New Mexico’s attorney general since 2023, after a political career that began in 2016 with his election as the Bernalillo County District Attorney. His campaign back then received significant funding from the Soros-backed group, New Mexico Safety and Justice, which raised concerns among his opponents regarding the influence of wealthy donors in state elections.

Reflecting on the broader implications of their legal efforts, Torres lamented that some measures taken through executive orders are now becoming entrenched in larger federal laws, potentially undermining their successes in court. He emphasized that the current governmental structure is under strain, unable to adequately manage the “speed of destruction” he attributes to the Trump administration.

Overall, the coalition remains steadfast, prepared for potential challenges posed by a future Trump administration while navigating the complexities of ongoing litigation and resource constraints.
