Audience Reaction to Fetterman’s “The View” Appearance
The announcement of Senator John Fetterman as a guest on ABC’s “The View” sparked boos from the audience on Monday. This happened just a day after Democrats sided with Republicans to put an end to the government shutdown.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg, while announcing Fetterman’s appearance, prompted an annoyed viewer to shout, “Boo!” This reaction seemed to catch Goldberg off-guard, and she responded with, “What the heck? If you ask, ‘What’s going on?’ you’ll probably get an answer.”
This weekend, the Senate moved one step closer to resolving the longest government shutdown in U.S. history by voting to conclude debate on a bipartisan agreement aimed at funding the government until January 30. Following the discussions, the deal may soon be presented for a vote.
Fetterman, described as a moderate from Pennsylvania, was among eight senators who broke party lines to support the Republican-led initiative to reopen the government.
Additionally, six other Democratic senators, along with independent Senator Angus King from Maine, voted in favor of progressing the deal to conclude the ongoing shutdown, which began on October 1.
This decision has faced criticism from other Democrats and progressives, who are insisting on additional health care subsidies before they could support the bill—citing concerns over rising insurance premiums.
Senator Bernie Sanders, an independent who aligns with the Democrats, expressed his discontent, calling it a “bad vote.” Nevertheless, Fetterman, via social media, announced on Sunday, “After 40 days of being a consistent voice against the government shutdown, I voted yes for the 15th time to reopen.” He shared his sympathy for affected groups like military personnel and SNAP recipients who have faced delayed pay. “This was a mistake,” he added.
The proposal could be voted on by both the House and Senate this week, as President Trump indicated on Monday that he would adhere to the terms required to end the government shutdown. Furthermore, he mentioned that Republicans would pursue a new plan to address health insurance subsidy deficits.
Fetterman will appear on “The View” on Tuesday, with the show scheduled to air from 11 a.m. to noon on ABC.
