Disappearance of Lynette Hooker: New Details Arise

A recorded phone call, made shortly after Lynette Hooker went missing, indicates that her husband, Brian Hooker, may have been in the water with her that night. This statement contradicts Brian’s initial account of events. After leaving Hope Town, Bahamas, around 7:30 p.m. on April 4, Brian reported that rough seas caused his wife to fall from their dinghy. He reached Marsh Harbor around 4 a.m. on April 5.

The couple was on their way back to their yacht, named Soulmate, which they used as their retirement home. They’ve shared their sailing adventures across the U.S. and the Caribbean on social media.

Two days following Lynette’s disappearance, Brian spoke to a friend, Blaine Stevenson, during a call. Stevenson noted that the timing of the call seems to suggest Brian was indeed in the water that night, which conflicts with what Brian claimed, that he stayed in the dinghy while Lynette drifted away.

Brian described the chaotic conditions in a seemingly frantic manner: “The waves were three feet high, and while I was trying to manage the oar, one of the pins broke. I yelled at her the entire time for help,” he recalled. It appears that he struggled to maintain control of the dinghy and even attempted some sort of distress signal with a flare.

Kenneth Engelland, who teaches maritime law, commented on Brian’s shifting narrative, calling it “inconsistent.” He pointed out the contradictions in Brian’s statements, noting issues such as claiming to be in the water while also trying to save his wife.

Authorities continued their search for Lynette using GPS data from Brian’s phone, which reportedly revealed inconsistencies with his earlier statements. This led to an expanded search area in the Abaco Sea, where investigators are treating the case as a possible homicide.
