Australia v India: fourth men’s cricket Test, day four – live | Australia cricket team

So the Indian pair added 11 this morning, trimming the deficit usefully. Now everything rides on their efforts with the ball. Will Australia fall victim to the third-innings wobble, as they did in Brisbane? Will they seize control of this match? Sam Konstas is going to bat in a few minutes. Strap in, either way.

Never mind, the point of contention is soon resolved. Team play from Reddy, he could have just batted for the nice red ink ton, but he keeps taking on Lyon and hits him down the ground again. This time elevated but not enough distance, and Starc at long off has the buckets out. Lyon gets three instead of Cummins getting four.

Day 4, and the match is still is alive. I love that for us. December 28th may be known forevermore as Nitish Kumar Reddy Day. That’s unlikely, but it wouldn’t be outrageous if it happened. It was one hell of an innings from the young player to assemble his first century in Tests and to do so from No 8 in the order. India still trail by a lot, 116 runs, but they have a path towards at least scrapping this out for a draw, or if they happen to bowl well in the third innings then they could be in the frame for a win.

So the scores are: Australia 474, India 358-9. Of course, the advantage is still very much with Australia, and all they have to do is bat decently in the third innings to put a win out of reach for India, and shoot for one themselves.

First, though, they need to finish off Reddy. He reached 105 not out by the time bad light and rain ended play early on Day 3. He’s still there, and he’ll have strike. But he only has Mohammed Siraj for company. So this could all be over in a couple of minutes, or he might farm the strike for a while and whittle down that deficit still further.

3rd over: Australia 8-0 (Constace 3, Khawaja 3) It was Bumrah's turn to beat Khawaja outside the off-stump, but again there was no edge. Indian bowlers need to bowl early. If Australia crosses 200 runs in this innings, the match will almost be over. Good ball from Bumrah! Look at Khawaja, just behind the bat's shoulders, as he pulls the bat inside the line. Khawaja talks to himself about it as he walks away. Then he was dropped! Oh, it was straight to him. Jaiswal, who was in leg gully, must have been expecting a catch almost at that position. Glancing from the pads, it's low, fast and flat, but it comes straight to his hands at about knee height and Jaiswal lets it explode like that. big moment.

2 overs: Australia 7-0 (Constace 3, Khawaja 2) Akashdeep with the new ball instead of Siraj. If there is a tremor, now is the time. He continues to hop Khawaja and tries to play length balls. You can get slim legs. deep nice bowl Constas hits the seam and decks over the edge. Outswinging then, Constas notches two with a deep backwards movement before being hit again with a ball that is too short for him to take advantage.

1st over: Australia 4-0 (Constace 1, Khawaja 1) Double K comes to the middle and Constas strikes Bumrah… and when he takes the first ball, there are boos! A little pull shot. Khawaja glimpses the first run. Bumrah is not yet able to stand on the spot, his shoulder hurts from carrying him on his side, etc. He bowled it next to the stumps, muttered to himself as Constas stared back at him, and bowled the leg stumps away from his pads for two. The pace slowed down in the low 130s. Give him an over or two to warm up. Here's the first shot of Konstas! He charged, hit, and missed with an almost horizontal bat, and the ball bounced over the stumps.

Our most knowledgeable maritime coding correspondent, John Starbuck, writes: Oh, I remember when Richie said “Good morning everyone.” I'm currently rereading Jasper Forde's The Woman Who Died So Much while drinking a Golden Rum to help me sleep later (he says). Although the major sport is croquet, not cricket, this is a book I recommend. As long as it doesn't rain, you're ready to enjoy OBO, so put more effort into your typing fingers. What's the weather forecast for MCG? ”

I once confused some very cheerful Icelanders, thinking I was talking about croquet. The weather was sunny and cool on this morning's walk, but halfway through the temperature dropped into the mid-20s and there was no rain for the remainder of the test.

Update date and time

At the end of the second inning, Australia leads by 105 points.

The Indian pair therefore added 11 this morning, effectively reducing the deficit. Now it all comes down to their effort with the ball. Will Australia fall victim to a third-inning wobble like they did in Brisbane? Will they be able to take control of this match? Sam Constas will be at bat in a few minutes. Either way, buckle up.

Wicket! Lady C Stark B Lyon 114, India 369-10

Don't worry, the dispute will be resolved soon. Reddy's team play, he could have batted for the great Red Inkton, but he kept going against Lyon and beat him to the ground again. This time there was more elevation but not enough distance, and Stark missed the bucket in the distance. Instead of Cummins scoring four points, Lyon scores three.

119th: India 369-9 (Lady 114, Siraj 4) Cheers erupt as Siraj blocks the first ball. There aren't many people yet due to the early start this morning, but there is plenty of stock in the MCC area. Siraj hits the fourth ball of the run and Reddy adds another ball.

And big things to do from the last ball. Siraj goes for a yorker outside the stumps. Squeeze it up from the edge and slide it on. The bump ball was checked by the umpire, and third umpire Sharhudullah, a Bangladeshi, ruled that it was not out. Cummins was surprised. When I saw the replay, the Australians had already started walking towards the fence. Cummins is giving the review T-sign over and over again to the standing referee, but Joel Wilson tells him he can't do a review.

I have to agree with Cummins. I think it's possible that the ball is touching the bat and the ground at the same time. That may be what the referee thinks. But I say it comes out of the blue and then it happens out of the blue. He touches the bat at the end while skating. Anyway. It's not out.

118th: India 367-9 (Lady 113, Siraj 3) The first pitch is a single shot! I'm happy to have Siraj facing Lyon's spin. interesting. Siraj might need to look for runs here instead of blocking five balls. And he does! I poked it a little behind the point and it worked. Lady sweeps a few run squares. Then charge Rion and defeat the four! That's the content. Opportunities to face may not be so many, but what you get you have to take, and the makers of the young century have happily worked on all series of Lyon. This time go underground. However, from the 6th pitch onwards, he couldn't find the ball that would keep the strike. Cummins, who hit a full over on Siraj, could become a codicil.

117th: India 359-9 (Lady 106, Siraj 2) Cummins bowls, Reddy resumes for a century, the onlookers cheer… and he plays forward defense. Nice. Blocked a couple and then decided to take one, the 4th ball of the over instead of the 5th or 6th. So he decided to trust Siraj from the beginning. Not so much that they could concede a run when Siraj blocks the ball into the midwicket gap. He sparring at number six along the stump line but goes past the edge.

Update date and time

The players enter the field. Even though the umpire was sent off, some members of the Indian team still continued to play high catches. That is dedication. Now they are starting to move.

The special part of yesterday was Reddy's innings, an innings that he could not have put together without the partnership support from Washington Sundar. That's what I wrote on the stump.

preamble

Jeff Lemon

On the fourth day, the match is still going on. We really like that. December 28 may forever be known as Nitish Kumar Reddy Day. I can't imagine that happening, but it wouldn't be outrageous if it happened. It was a hell of an innings for this young player to put together a Test century and do it from No. 8 in the order. India still have a huge lead of 116 runs, but at least they have a way to salvage this for a draw and if they happen to bowl well in the third innings, they could be within the range of victory.

The score is Australia 474 and India 358-9. Of course, Australia's advantage is still huge and all they have to do is bat decently in the third innings to put India's win out of reach and aim for a win themselves.

But first, we need to get rid of Lady. By the time bad light and rain ended play on the third day, he had reached 105 without an outing. He will still be there and there will be strikes. But his only companion is Mohamed Siraj. So this could all be over in a few minutes, or he could continue to strike for a while and further reduce that deficit.

Let's take a look.
