Australia was alerted by Israeli intelligence about Iranian terror networks.

Senior Israeli intelligence officials revealed that Australia was alerted months prior about foreign-linked terrorist infrastructure being set up within its borders, highlighting particular concern regarding threats to the Jewish community. This was amid rising worries over potential Iranian influence and a possible revival of ISIS in Syria.

According to an Israeli intelligence source, specific warnings were given to Australian authorities about Iranian-led operations, targeting Jewish interests, though not directly linked to the recent attack at Bondi Beach; rather, the focus was on wider initiatives to form terrorist networks aimed at Jewish targets.

“We’ve succeeded in stopping several time bombs,” the official remarked, adding that the targets involved were indeed serious.

A rabbi who was killed in a recent attack in Sydney had previously warned the Australian prime minister about escalating anti-Semitism.

The official described how Israeli intelligence had noted Iranian coordination and activity, where operatives were reportedly carrying weapons within the Jewish community without detection by local law enforcement.

Prior to the Bondi Beach attack, Australia had expelled Iran’s ambassador after claims by local security officials that Iran was behind plans to assault Jewish targets. The Iranian government has, however, denied these allegations.

In light of the attack, Iranian state media condemned the violence against civilians, while affirming that there was no Iranian involvement. Australian officials indicated that the investigation was ongoing and they anticipated clarity on any foreign involvement shortly.

The Israeli intelligence assessment aligns with warnings from a diplomatic source suggesting that an international climate has emerged, whereby extremist groups worldwide are amplifying attacks and encouraging replication.

The source pointed out that the online jihadist communities are playing a crucial part in instigating actions among extremists, emphasizing that such attacks, while simpler to execute, have an outsized impact.

Warnings had indicated a risk extending beyond Jewish groups, with potential threats to Christian communities, especially during holidays significant to both faiths, when extremist activity typically spikes.

One Israeli intelligence official asserted that Australia isn’t alone in this; there’s been a notable global uptick in Iran-linked terrorist activity targeting Jews.

“Iran’s attacks on Jewish populations have surged significantly since the conflict began,” he noted. “This trend isn’t restricted to Australia.”

Intelligence has allegedly identified or interrupted similar plots in regions such as Europe, Africa, and Asia, encompassing countries like Germany and Austria, as well as suspected schemes in South America and beyond.

“If only you knew the extent of the terrorist plots Mossad has averted, you’d be astonished,” the official stated.

Another senior Israeli source remarked that the global threat landscape is deteriorating following two years of conflict in the Middle East, which he claimed has energized extremist movements internationally.

Reports suggest threats now frequently come from individuals or dormant cells, which, despite requiring few resources, can inflict significant harm and inspire others to replicate similar actions.

Particular concern was raised regarding developments in Syria that could allow ISIS to regroup, potentially igniting more violence in the region. The official expressed alarm over the recent events in Australia possibly leading to violence elsewhere.

Intelligence warnings heightened following a terrorist incident at a Hanukkah celebration in Bondi Beach. Reports state that a father and son carried out a shooting on the beach, resulting in at least 15 fatalities and numerous injuries. The father died at the scene, while the son, critically injured by police fire, was hospitalized. Authorities categorized the shooting as an act of terrorism aimed at the Jewish community.

Australian leaders have condemned the attack, bolstered security around Jewish institutions, and stated intentions to reassess counter-terrorism strategies in light of rising anti-Semitic incidents across the country.
