Bodies of Three Women Found Near Puerto Vallarta
Authorities in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, announced on Wednesday that the bodies of three women had been discovered in or around the area, with no evidence currently linking any suspects to the case.
While the women have not been formally identified, reports indicate that they were found partially clothed and had tattoos. There are claims that one of the women may be a 22-year-old who was reported missing. The bodies were found over the course of 11 days, leading to previous concerns about a possible serial killer targeting women in the popular tourist destination. However, recent statements from the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office clarified that there is no indication of a serial perpetrator in this case.
The Prosecutor’s Office, based on available evidence, stated that there are “no objective elements or scientific evidence” to support the idea of a serial assailant operating in the area. They noted varying causes of death among the victims: one may have suffered from a sharp object injury, another possibly faced poisoning, while the cause of death of the last woman appeared to be drowning. The bodies were uncovered on May 10, May 15, and May 21.
The first woman was found near a ranch on May 10, as reported by local news. Shortly after, another body was recovered at a roadside area south of Puerto Vallarta. Reports indicated that this second woman had a bruise on her left eyebrow, leading detectives to investigate whether she was attacked or simply left there, not far from a well-known hotel.
The final body was located on a dirt road on May 21. This last victim has been identified as 22-year-old Elizabeth G., who had been missing since late April. The identities of the other two women have not yet been confirmed.
Authorities have urged caution regarding unverified reports as the investigation continues. Puerto Vallarta, in the Jalisco state, has been marked by the U.S. State Department due to concerns over crime and safety, which include threats from gang activities. This summer, Guadalajara, the state capital, is set to host several World Cup matches.
No comments have been received from the city officials in Puerto Vallarta regarding the ongoing situation.
