Authorities arrive at the home of Irvine teenager accused of reckless science experiments

On Wednesday, federal agents executed a search at the home of an 18-year-old boy in Irvine who is said to have been conducting scientific experiments. This action was prompted by complaints regarding a strong chemical smell emanating from the residence.

A significant number of agents from the FBI, Department of Justice, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Irvine Police Department were present at Amarvin Fritz’s home, which is located in a gated community.

A judicial search warrant was being enforced at the site, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California. However, specifics about any items seized remain unclear.

This latest visit marks the third time federal agents have inspected the property. Just the day before, investigators checked it after a neighbor reported spotting three unusual industrial barrels and noticing the strange chemical odor.

The barrels, which were empty and believed to have previously held chemicals, were not confiscated during an earlier raid in February, as stated by the family’s attorney, C.J. Ray.

Following reports of a chemical odor from the residence in Crater, local fire and police departments were dispatched. Fortunately, there were no evacuations, and officials indicated no immediate threat to the surrounding community.

This isn’t the first time Fritz’s home has been scrutinized; federal agents had previously searched it several months ago after receiving alerts about a suspicious object in February. The property is situated in a neighborhood where homes typically exceed $5 million in value.

During that initial raid, investigators discovered chemical mixtures and formulas written on whiteboards, which led the FBI to involve experts for further examination. Notably, no arrests were made following that raid.
