Illegal Immigrant Convicted of Double Homicide Gains Federal Custody

An illegal immigrant, who has previously faced charges related to the deaths of 19-year-olds Anna Valforomeeva and Nikolai Osokin in California, is now under federal custody after serving just three and a half years in prison for vehicular homicide.

Valforomeeva and Osokin were tragically killed in November 2021 in Orange County when Oscar Eduardo Ortega Angiano, who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, crashed his vehicle while speeding at 100 mph.

The following year, Ortega Angiano was convicted on two counts of DUI manslaughter and received a 10-year prison sentence. Notably, he had a history of felony convictions prior to this incident and had spent time in the state prison system.

Now, after serving only a fraction of his sentence, Ortega Angiano is set to be released. Federal prosecutors have raised concerns about his status as an illegal immigrant, highlighting that he had been deported twice before returning to the U.S., where he ultimately caused the deaths of the two teenagers.

Bill Essay remarked, “He was deported twice to Mexico, returned illegally, and then killed two young people in a DUI crash, yet only served three and a half years of a 10-year sentence.”

Governor Newsom has let down the victims’ families by permitting the release of someone who has barely completed a third of their sentence. California’s criminal justice system has serious flaws, and prisons are often quickly vacated. It’s a relief that the federal government may step in to ensure justice for the victims and their families in this case.

Ortega Angiano was deported from the U.S. in December 2016 and again in June 2018. His criminal record includes a felony for vehicle theft in Los Angeles in October 2005, along with charges for violence and false imprisonment in February 2014.

A federal lawsuit against Ortega Angiano is set to begin on September 8, where he could face up to 10 years in federal prison if found guilty.
