Authorities dismantle masked protesters attempting to obstruct ICE facility in Portland

Federal agents took action against a large group of protesters attempting to obstruct access to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities in Portland, Oregon on Wednesday night. They employed non-lethal ammunition, including rubber bullets and tear gas, to break up the demonstration.

Footage from Turning Point USA’s Frontline captured the chaotic atmosphere as agents attempted to disperse the crowd. This protest marks the latest instance in a series of demonstrations outside the city’s ICE buildings that have reportedly intensified over the past week and a half.

Before sunset, hundreds of masked protesters took to the streets, holding signs with messages like “No one is illegal on stolen land” and advocating for the protection of immigrants and refugees. Some individuals were seen wearing kefiyahs, a symbol commonly linked to left-leaning protests.

As evening approached, tensions rose. Protesters placed trash cans in front of the ICE entrance, which prompted law enforcement on the rooftop to respond with non-lethal blasts. Despite being warned to disperse, many protesters remained, leading officers to deploy their crowd control measures while also releasing gas into the air. The Department of Homeland Security expressed the necessity of clearing the area for the safe exit of government vehicles.

During the event, the protesters chanted slogans, emphasizing their grievances against law enforcement. While multiple arrests occurred, the exact number is currently unclear. Efforts to reach Homeland Security for comments had no immediate response.

According to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), two individuals were arrested amidst the broader demonstration. Eduardo Diaz, 22, allegedly directed a laser pointer at a federal official and was subsequently booked. Meanwhile, Mariana Rivera Rosa, 19, was taken into custody for trespassing after disregarding several warnings. The PPB maintains that their role does not involve immigration enforcement, but rather, ensuring public safety during such protests.
