12 people injured, 2 in critical condition in Ohio festival shooting

A shooting at a street festival in Toledo, Ohio, resulted in 12 people getting injured, with two of them in critical condition. Eyewitnesses initially thought the sounds were fireworks and saw a chaotic scene with people running for safety. The Toledo Police Department is currently investigating the incident and has requested the public to send in any photos or videos that might shed light on the multiple suspects still at large.

The search for the gunman, who injured over a dozen individuals during the festival, marked its third day on Monday without any arrests. Police mentioned they are tracking “multiple leads” in their investigation.

In a recent social media update, Toledo police reiterated that their investigation is ongoing and asked festival attendees to provide any visual evidence of the suspect.

The incident, reported around 5:37 p.m. Saturday, occurred near the Old West End Festival, which was bustling with hundreds enjoying live music, food, and home tours. Upon arrival, officers found several individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. As of Sunday, all 12 victims were said to be stable and making progress, with ages ranging from 14 to 61, most being in their early 20s.

Deputy Police Chief Joseph Heffernan addressed the media, stating that investigators suspect at least two gunmen were involved, possibly exchanging fire amongst themselves.

Authorities have yet to clarify any descriptions of the suspects or a possible motive behind the shooting.

In a strong statement, Lucas County Attorney Julia Bates remarked, “Justice will be swift and strong,” emphasizing the urgency and importance of the case.

Bates also expressed a personal connection to the tragedy, acknowledging the horror and trauma experienced by the victims. “I’ve felt angry before, but this is personal. This is my home. These are my friends and neighbors. That’s not okay,” she stated.
