Authorities are intensifying their search for Travis Decker, who is accused of killing his three daughters and escaping into the wilderness of Washington. The local police emphasize they are enhancing their emergency searches as they continue to look for him.
“As we proceed, we will adjust our strategies,” said Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison during a press conference. “What we need is for him to slip up just once, and then we will have him in custody.”
Decker, a former military member, is being pursued following the tragic deaths of his daughters, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5. The search has intensified since the U.S. Marshals Service deployed their rapid-response team. Morrison’s comments come amid this focused effort to locate Decker.
Morrison also urged the public to remain alert, particularly in areas like Ingal Creek. “If you’re in that area and you see anything unusual, it could be significant. Even the smallest detail may help us track him down,” he advised.
Previously, the manhunt gained momentum after reports of hikers spotting a lone individual appearing unprepared for the wilderness. Following the lead, authorities utilized a helicopter to survey nearby areas, including Lake Kolchuck, where they briefly spotted someone fleeing as the chopper approached.
Authorities found the bodies of the three girls after Decker failed to return them to their mother following a visit arranged by the court. Their discovery has deeply impacted the community and heightened the urgency of the search.
There’s also news suggesting that Decker might have conducted online searches related to survival techniques, raising concerns about his potential plans to evade capture.
A reward of $20,000 is being offered for information that leads to his arrest. If found guilty, Decker faces the possibility of spending life in prison without parole.
“We won’t give up,” stated former U.S. Chief Jerome Brown. “He just needs to make one mistake. We’re committed to seeing justice served so the community can start to heal.”
