Tragic Discovery of Three Sisters in Washington State
Three young sisters, who had gone missing in Washington state over the weekend, have been found deceased after visiting their father, according to the Wenatchee Police Department’s confirmation on Tuesday.
The search continues for the girls’ father, who is currently a person of interest in this case.
The sisters, aged 5, 8, and 9, were found near their father’s truck at a campsite west of Leavenworth. Their father, identified as Travis Decker, has been charged with multiple counts, including first-degree murder.
Efforts to locate Decker have been extensive. Law enforcement has been actively searching for him, having issued a warrant shortly before the sisters’ bodies were discovered.
Travis is reportedly homeless and has previously stayed in motels and campsites in the local area. He picked the girls up from their mother’s house for what was supposed to be a routine visit, but concerns were raised when he failed to return them as expected. Their mother, Whitney Decker, reported them missing after realizing something was amiss when he didn’t come back.
Eyewitnesses stated that they saw Decker and his truck over the weekend in the West End region of Leavenworth. Various federal agencies, including the SWAT team, were involved in the search efforts for Decker.
Before the sisters were found, their mother publicly appealed for their safe return, expressing her desperate hope for their safety.
“I just want to bring the girls home safely,” she stated in a heartfelt message to the community.
“This is an unimaginable situation, and I’m really worried about both the girls and their father,” she added in her statement.
Whitney had previously felt secure when her ex-husband took the children, noting that his mental health issues had not seemed serious enough to pose a substantial risk at that time.
“Travis has really struggled since leaving the military; his mental health can sometimes be unpredictable,” she explained prior to the tragic discovery. “He loves his children deeply. I think he just made some impulsive decisions.”
The search for information continues, and the community remains in shock and mourning over this heartbreaking event.
