California Man Arrested for Illegal Weapons Found in Underground Bunker
A man from California has been taken into custody after law enforcement uncovered a hidden underground bunker on his property, which contained a concerning collection of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Michael Kamfort, age 40 and residing in Anderson, is facing nearly 11 charges related to weapon possession. These include having an assault rifle and the manufacture of a ghost gun. His arrest was executed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) during an investigation into a suspected illegal marijuana growing operation at his residence.
CHP Northern Bureau Chief John Pinoli remarked, “This operation goes far beyond illegal cultivation. The combination of hidden bunkers and a troubling array of illegal firearms and ammunition underscores a serious threat to public safety.”
On January 20, authorities conducted a search of Kamfort’s property and found the underground bunker accessed via a 100-foot-long culvert.
The CHP stated, “The bunker was equipped with power, ventilation, a concrete floor with drainage, and resources for marijuana cultivation.”
In addition to the bunker, officers confiscated 13 firearms, four pieces of soft body armor, around 30 high-capacity magazines, and about 10,000 rounds of ammunition, some of which were armor-piercing. This collection included a sawed-off shotgun, three AR-15-style rifles—one of which had an obliterated serial number—and two guns reported stolen in past years.
The CHP also mentioned that they had returned with a search warrant after gaining intelligence about the property in December 2025, which led to the discovery of both the illegal cannabis operation and the underground bunker.
