Authorities seek assistance in identifying individual involved in Reflecting Pool damage case

The U.S. Park Police are reaching out to the public for assistance in identifying an individual captured on video as part of an inquiry into reported damage to a reflecting pool and vandalism of government property in Washington, D.C.

The event occurred around 3:36 p.m. on Friday at the reflecting pool near the Lincoln Memorial.

A video released by the police shows someone seemingly kneeling by the pool and extending their arm into the water.

This person has dark hair and is wearing a gray shirt, black shorts, and carrying a light-colored handbag.

This investigation follows President Trump’s attempts to restore the reflecting pool, which led to issues like peeling paint and algae growth, transforming its intended “American flag blue” color to a damp green.

President Trump and other officials mentioned that several individuals were arrested, with more sought in connection to the damage to the pool.

Trump remarked about the situation, suggesting that the damage was inflicted using sharp tools, describing those responsible as “sick people.” He expressed that they should face long prison sentences, attributing the destruction to what he referred to as “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

He added that water would need to be drained for repairs and noted speculations about fertilizer being dumped into the pool, contributing to the algae bloom.

Speaking about the surrounding area, he mentioned that the same people may have been responsible for pouring acid on the grass, which has quickly damaged it. He characterized this act as illegal, saying that chemicals were improperly introduced into the water.
