‘Avoid Arresting Criminals’: Conservative Reporter Critiques Police After His Own Arrest While Reporting on Antifa

Antifa and Arrests in Portland

Recently, conservative journalist Nick Thorto discussed the extremist group Antifa after being arrested for “disorderly conduct” during an appearance on Fox News’ Ingraham Angle. Antifa, which has now been labeled a terrorist organization, has been involved in ongoing protests and vandalism near the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland.

During the segment, guest host Joey Jones sought to unpack the events leading to Thorto’s arrest. “Man, that’s crazy,” Thorto remarked. “It was insane all day. I was stuck in jail overnight, so everything felt like it blended into the previous day. Oddly enough, the prisons here seem empty, as if they haven’t really been arresting any criminals.” He noted that Portland police generally refrain from intervening on federal property and that Antifa members typically dislike being recorded, often reacting with hostility.

Despite lingering worries about Antifa’s presence, local authorities appear hesitant to arrest participants in anti-ICE protests. Thorto shared a video illustrating the tension, where Antifa members, dressed in black, confronted him as he attempted to cross the street. It appeared to escalate when one individual attempted to strike him, only to end up on the ground.

Jones questioned whether he thought the Portland Police Department would take action regarding his arrest. Thorto responded skeptically, referring to past incidents of violence where police were uninvolved. “Did something shift suddenly? It seems suspicious. If I was deemed disorderly, what about someone yelling into a megaphone at 3 a.m.?” he pondered.

This arrest occurred shortly after a post-millennial reporter, Katie Davis, was assaulted by Antifa members, leaving her injured. Authorities did not apprehend her attacker, despite her knowing the assailant was affiliated with the Portland Police Bureau.

According to Thorto, the Attorney General Pam Bondy stated that the civil rights division would evaluate his case in response to his post.
