Avoid getting caught up in the temporary excitement around Will Benson.

Monthly Hitter Highlights

This month, some familiar names are dominating the batting stats. Freddie Freeman, Rafael Devers, and José Ramírez are all sitting pretty among the average leaders. Meanwhile, Shohei Ohtani and Kyle Schwarber are making waves with their home runs, while Jackson Chourio, Francisco Lindor, and Bobby Witt Jr. stand out in the stolen base category.

Interestingly, there are some surprising names lighting up the scoreboard, too. Although they might be overshadowed by the big stars, it raises the question: do you gamble on these players for the long haul, or do they burn out after a hot streak? It brings to mind Kyren Paris, who had a brief, fiery run.

Take Cincinnati’s Wilbenson, for instance. In just 10 games since his recall, he’s batting .400 with five home runs—astonishingly, all in a span of four games. He’s also racked up 11 RBIs, scored seven runs, and has a stolen base along with a 1.471 OPS.

This kind of performance definitely grabs attention, even if it’s from a small sample size. He’s a player with a solid track record: over four seasons in the minors, he clocked 104 home runs and swiped 102 bases. In 2023, he showcased his power and speed, hitting 11 home runs and stealing 19 bases while batting .275 over 108 games. Last year, he managed to hit 14 homers in 128 games along with another 16 stolen bases.
