Democratic strategist David Axelrod said Republican Larry Hogan is “defying gravity” in the Maryland Senate race against Democrat Angela Alsobrooks.
“Former Gov. Larry Hogan is in a neck-and-neck race for U.S. Senate in Maryland, a testament to his popularity, according to a new poll by Anzalone and Fabrizio, while Kamala Harris is beating Trump by 32 points. I'm still betting on Democrat Angela Alsobrooks, but Republican Hogan is currently defying gravity,” Axelrod wrote. Social Platform X.
Axelrod said, New AARP PollIn a poll conducted by Fabrizio Ward and Impact Research, Alsobrooks and Hogan were tied at 46 percent for support each, with 7 percent of respondents undecided and 1 percent planning to support another candidate.
Hogan was elected to two terms as governor of Maryland and was one of the most popular governors in the country, with polls showing he has support beyond Republicans, with 55% of independents approving of him.
Polls have shown the state's senate race close, but not the presidential race, with Vice President Harris leading former President Trump by 32 points.
By emphasizing his independence and refusing to endorse President Trump, Hogan has raised hopes among Republicans that he can retake Maryland's Senate seat in November.
Hogan was previously co-chair of the political group No Labels, which considered running a “united” ticket with one candidate from each party but ultimately abandoned the effort, and resigned earlier this year ahead of a Senate run.
