Axelrod says impression of GOP as extreme thwarting party: This is not the image ‘the Republican Party wants’

Former Obama adviser David Axelrod said extreme impressions of the Republican Party are having a negative political impact.

“If it were me [President Biden’s] If you run a campaign, you might as well pay to have it seen by all Americans. [Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC)] Because what has been holding the Republican Party back since the midterm elections is this impression that the Republican Party is an extreme party.” Axelrod Said he told CNN’s John King on Friday in a clip featured by Mediaite.

CPAC began Thursday with former President Trump’s supporters gathering in droves and featured events such as pinball machines themed after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Speakers at Saturday’s event included MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, known for spreading false conspiracy theories about the 2020 election, former president and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy; They include Arizona state Senate candidate Kari Lake (Republican).

“Yesterday, you had someone stand up as chair at the CPAC convention and basically talked about… ‘We almost destroyed our democracy on January 6th,'” Axelrod continued. “‘Let’s do this now,’ he held up a cross and basically advocated a theocracy. This is not the image that Republicans want.”

The Biden campaign recently said that President Trump’s second term would be “like The Handmaid’s Tale.” This follows a Politico report detailing how the former president’s allies are working to incorporate “Christian nationalist ideas” into his next term.

“This is something straight out of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’ National abortion ban, attacks on same-sex marriage, restrictions on contraception, this is what Team Trump and his second term seem to be architects of.” It’s a frightening reality that’s being openly discussed by people,” Biden campaign spokeswoman Lauren Hitt said Tuesday.

President Trump plans to go after Biden on issues such as immigration, inflation and foreign policy in his speech Saturday at CPAC.

“If we win, our first and most urgent action will be to close the border, stop the invasion, and bring Joe Biden’s illegal aliens home,” according to an excerpt shared exclusively by The Hill. “Send it back to ,” he would say.

“But to achieve that future, we must first shake off the yoke of an out-of-control political class. And that starts with telling crooked Joe Biden, ‘You’re fired.'” Trump said. the president is expected to say.
