Matt Clark, Notable Actor, Passes Away at 89
Matt Clark, who is best known for his role in “Back to the Future Part III,” has died at the age of 89. His daughter, Amy Clark, confirmed the news of his passing.
Reports indicate that Clark died at his residence in Austin, Texas, due to complications following back surgery.
His career stretched across five decades, with his most recognized role being Bartender Chester in “Back to the Future Part III.” He also made appearances in shows like “Grace Under Fire,” “The Jeff Foxworthy Show,” and “Little House on the Prairie.”
Clark gained a reputation for his numerous roles in Westerns, featuring in many films and TV series from the late 1950s into the 2010s. His final film was “A Million Ways to Die in the West,” released in 2014. His family described this as a fitting farewell to the genre that shaped so much of his work.
According to his family, Clark was “an actor’s actor” who preferred the company of those dedicated to their craft rather than chasing fame. They emphasized that he felt fortunate in his life and maintained control over his career choices.
Director Gary Rosen spoke warmly of Clark, stating he was a defining figure of a golden era in Hollywood. Rosen noted how Clark’s unique style contributed significantly to classic films like “In the Heat of the Night,” “Jeremiah Johnson,” and “The Cowboys.” His performances left a memorable impact that will resonate long after his departure.
Clark had three marriages throughout his life—first to Erica Lunn, followed briefly by Carol Trieste, and later to Sharon Mays in 2000. He is survived by his wife Sharon and daughter Amy.
