NBC News Chief Foreign Affairs Andrea Mitchell said on NBC's “Meet the Press” on Sunday there was a growing international backlash against President Donald Trump's agenda.
Host Kristen Welker said, “Whether or not we're trying to make Canada the 51st state and of course, all of these cuts we're seeing, Trump's National Security Advisor in his questions about Gaza. I spoke to him. How do you see Trump's doctrine now?
Mitchell said: You can claim this is an opening bid, but we had seen it in Panama last week and they had to sail it to a US Navy ship for free, and the President of Panama must push back violently. Ultimately, they say that China's Belt and Road Initiative and other construction projects will be cancelled, but they cannot cancel the canal port. ”
She continued. “Then we've raised it in Canada too. No. 51 talks with the people of Canada. This helps the liberals and conservatives behind it replace Trudeau. There it is true. There's a backlash. People take it seriously.”
She added: “In Gaza, food aid, which was part of the ceasefire agreement, has been suspended. That's an important part, a surge in food aid. The president has raised the idea of owning Gaza within 45 minutes. At 4am, Saudi leader Mohammed bin Salman issued a statement denies it entirely. It basically means that we are in the US and to ensure that Saudi Arabia will recognize Israel in the long term. He killed a plan that Netanyahu has. It's just a starter. Even in Gaza, this could really hurt, not just a ceasefire deal.”
