Bad Bunny Approaches Super Bowl Performance with Caution
Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny is set to headline the Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, California, but he’s expressing concerns about fan safety due to fears that Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) agents might “attack the venue outside my show.” He mentioned this worry, emphasizing that he “might never perform in the US again.”
“Honestly, I can’t risk my fans’ safety,” Bad Bunny stated a few weeks prior to being officially named as the Super Bowl halftime show headliner. “I’ve performed in the mainland so many times. American fans have had plenty of chances to see me live.”
Before the official announcement, he tweeted in Spanish during an NBC Sunday Night Football segment, reflecting, “I was recently thinking. After talking with the team, perhaps I’ll only do one date in the US.”
Eventually, the announcement became official, solidifying his plans.
Having just completed a two-month stint in his home country, the three-time Grammy Award winner spoke to Outlet ID earlier this month regarding the absence of US dates for his upcoming Debi Tirar Mas Fotos world tour, set to expand in 2026.
“There were many reasons for not performing in the US, but it was never out of hatred. I’ve been there numerous times,” he noted. “All those shows were successful. They were epic. I love connecting with Latinos in the US. But specifically, regarding my residency in Puerto Rico, since we’re a non-integrated territory of the United States…”
“Fans in the US could travel here to see the show,” he continued. “Latinos and Puerto Ricans can journey here and anywhere globally, but there have been ICE-related concerns. It was a big topic for us, something I was quite worried about.”
Bad Bunny is scheduled to return and host NBC’s Saturday Night Live on September 18th.
